HELLO students, parents and countrymen! Below is a GENERAL OVERVIEW of typical homework deadlines and requirements Also, helpful planning checklists are below:

Word Study Contract: Turn in every Thursday; signatures required. Students are expected to spell the WORD SORT words correctly on their practice packet and will be penalized for not doing so. (see Forms Page to download)

Reading and Responding: From now through the middle of the year, students should continue to read for AT LEAST twenty minutes per night. In addition, they should complete a Response to their reading, and turn it in, complete with parent signature, each Friday. For more on the Response, see “What is a Response?” on the FORMS page.

Starting in mid-year, the weekly response will be replaced by a Big Idea Response Long Letter. This takes longer to write and addresses a larger scope of reading ideas. For more on this see the FORMS page or the BIG DOINGS page.

Free Write and Writing Log: WRITE FOR FORTY MINUTES EVERY WEEK. Turn in a SIGNED Writing Log every Friday (see Forms Page to download form)

Free Write Publications: One Published Piece per trimester for The Churning Brain Free Write Book (see Writing Log for deadlines)

Book Club: One Book Club Presentation per trimester (see FORMS page to download deadlines and requirements)

Math: Brief practice work, Monday through Thursday

Social Studies and Science: As necessary to prepare for tests or projects.
